About Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir
Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir is a Kenyan politician who currently serves as the Governor of Mombasa County, having been elected in August 2022 on an ODM ticket under the Azimio la Umoja coalition. Before becoming governor, he represented Mvita Constituency as a Member of Parliament from 2013 to 2022, where he also chaired the Public Investments Committee. Born in Majengo, Mombasa, Nassir is the son of the late Sheriff Nassir, a former MP and cabinet minister. He studied at Aga Khan Primary School, Lenana School, and later earned a Bachelor of Commerce from Inoorero University, with ongoing postgraduate studies at Mount Kenya University. As governor, he has prioritized education through scholarships, revitalization of the blue economy, infrastructure improvements, and tackling social issues such as drug abuse and criminal gangs. Married with four children, Nassir is also known for his personal health journey, having lost significant weight in 2016. His leadership has not been without controversy, notably facing allegations in 2024 of orchestrating violence against a critic, which he denied.
