George Natembeya

George Natembeya is the Governor of Trans-Nzoia County in Kenya, elected in August 2022. Before becoming governor, he built a reputation as a tough and outspoken administrator, serving as the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner and earlier as County Commissioner in Narok and Isiolo. His career in public service began at the University of Nairobi, where he studied anthropology, and later as a personal assistant to the late John Michuki. Natembeya became well known for overseeing sensitive security operations, including the Mau Forest evictions, and for his firm stance against banditry and illegal land activities. As governor, he has focused on infrastructure development, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and environmental conservation, while promoting transparency and accountability in governance. His leadership style is often described as bold and people-centered, earning him high approval ratings, though he also faces challenges such as land settlement disputes and the high expectations of his constituents.
