About Gideon Mung'aro
Gideon Maitha Mung’aro is the current Governor of Kilifi County, Kenya, elected in August 2022 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Born in 1966, he has built a long career in public service, beginning as Mayor of Malindi before serving as Member of Parliament for both Malindi and Kilifi North constituencies. He later held national roles as Chief Whip of the CORD coalition and as Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministries of Lands and Devolution, where he oversaw the issuance of thousands of title deeds to regularize land ownership. As governor, Mung’aro has focused on healthcare expansion through the Afya Maishani Programme and investment in Early Childhood Development Education facilities, though his tenure has also faced criticism over alleged corruption and nepotism.
