Hassan Morowa

Hassan Morowa is a Kenyan economist, businessman, poet, and cultural advocate from Tana River County. Born in Nduru village in the Tana Delta, he is the youngest child of Alhaj Muhammad Ali Hiribae, one of the pioneers of Islam in the region, and Mama Bona Rhoka. Morowa studied economics at the University of Nairobi and went on to build a successful career in banking, working with institutions such as Habib Bank, First American Bank, and Co-operative Bank of Kenya for nearly two decades. After retiring from banking, he ventured into business, investing in health services and creative studios while mentoring young entrepreneurs in Tana, Mombasa, and Nairobi. Alongside his professional work, he is a respected Swahili poet, best known for his book Diwani ya Maji ya Mvua, which has helped many learn and appreciate Swahili poetry. He also shares cultural traditions and poetry through his YouTube channel, promoting the preservation of Swahili heritage. Politically, Morowa ran for Tana River Governor in 2022 and is preparing for another bid in 2027, with a vision of transforming the county into Kenya’s breadbasket by fostering unity and inclusive development. He is a father of four—Morowa, Abiyo, Al-Amin, and Zeynab Bona—and is widely admired for his honesty, respect, and commitment to community values.
