Mariam Sheikh Omar

Mariam Sheikh Omar is a Kenyan politician serving as a nominated Senator in the 13th Parliament, representing Mandera County under the United Democratic Movement (UDM), which is part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition. She holds the position of Vice Chair in the Senate’s Health Committee and is also a member of the Lands, Environment & Natural Resources Committee and the County Public Accounts Committee. Born in Mandera, she pursued higher education in business and accounting, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Kampala University and a Master’s degree from Mount Kenya University, alongside professional certifications such as CPA-K. Before joining politics, she worked as a Finance Officer at the Aga Khan Foundation, later as a Management Accountant at the Northern Water Service Board, and eventually as CEO of the Frontier Institute of Professional and Management Studies. In Parliament, she has been active in sponsoring bills, including the Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill of 2023, and has made over 230 contributions in debates, particularly on healthcare, public finance, and environmental issues.
